Saturday afternoon, Unilia Kaning’ina Campus hosted a series of exciting inter-campus games including netball, football, volleyball and basketball at Moyale ground matching their skills against Unilia Ekwendeni Healthy Sciences.
However, during the event, there were logistical challenges that made people frustrated.
Catherine Kayuni, a student at Vision Secondary School, voiced out their concern over the delayed start of their scheduled netball game.
“Our game was supposed to start at 2:30, and it’s already past 3, and will play after Unilia but their game has not yet begun,” she said.
Hendrina Mwenibabu, captain for the Kaning’ina netball team, acknowledged the disorganization within their ranks.
“Kaning’ina netball team is not organized. They are accustomed to late-coming visitors. Instead of finding us settled in the ground, the players were not around and it took almost 35 minutes for us to get settled to start the game,” she explained.
The late start affected Vision Secondary School team, which was supposed to play next. Grace Soko, a teacher at Vision Secondary, expressed concern over the impact on their students.
“We come from Zolozolo, and starting the game late will affect us badly because being a day secondary school, we schedule to start the game 2:30 to finish early so that the students will arrive home in good time,” she added.
Chisomo Kawendo, the Vice president of Ekwendeni Healthy Sciences expressed the same thoughts regarding the late start and logistical mishaps.
“We started off the trip past 1, and we had a breakdown at Twalo Flats. The bus was boiling, and we had to walk to Kaning’ina Campus. But also, the whistles were on another bus, which went on a second trip and all these contributed to start the game late,” she disclosed.
Despite the challenges faced, participants remained hopeful for smoother proceedings and Kaning’ina won three games out of four played. The games included netball, basketball and football.
