MABEDI UNVEILS 20-MAN SQUAD FOR AFCON QUALIFIERS

Malawi national football team coach, Patrick Mabedi, has named a 20-member squad for the forthcoming TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers against Senegal.

The squad, comprising experienced players from local and international leagues, aims to secure crucial points against the West African giants.

In goal, Mabedi has opted for George Chikooka of Silver Strikers and Brighton Munthali of Blue Eagles.


The defensive lineup features Mark Lameck, Nickson Mwase of Silver Strikers, Stanley Sanudi, Lawrence Chaziya, Timothy Silwimba of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, and Chembezi Denis of Al Qasim SC-Iraq.


Midfield duties will be handled by Liyod Aaron of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Wisdom Mpinganjira of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, Chimwemwe Idana of Silver Strikers, Lanjesi Nkhoma, Patrick Mwaungulu of TP Mazembe-DRC, John Banda of UD Songo-Mozambique, Yamikani Chester, Lloyd Njeliwa of Costa do sol-Mozambique, and Robert Saizi of Zanaco-Zambia.


Upfront, Mabedi has selected Zeliat Nkhoma of Kamuzu Barracks, Chawanangwa Kaonga of Zanaco-Zambia, and Richard Mbulu of Costa do sol-Mozambique to lead the attack.


The Afcon qualifiers are scheduled to take place soon, with Malawi seeking to make a strong impression against Senegal.


Mabedi's squad selection has been touted as a blend of youth and experience, with players from various leagues bringing their expertise to the table.


Malawi's chances in the qualifiers remain uncertain, but fans are optimistic about the team's prospects.


The full squad is expected to report for camp soon to begin preparations for the crucial encounter.
