In a significant diplomatic move, Malawi's Vice President, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, is set to represent President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera at the 60th Anniversary of the African Union (AU) which will be held in Tanzania.
The event, scheduled from 26 April to April 27 April 2024, brings together leaders from across Africa to discuss critical issues facing the continent.
Dr. Chilima received an official invitation from Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of Tanzania. Chilima's participation in this historic gathering underscores Malawi's commitment to regional cooperation and active engagement within the AU framework.
Chilima is expected to depart from Kamuzu International Airport on Thursday, April 25th, 2024, at 09:40 AM.
During the AU anniversary, Dr. Chilima is expected to participate in high-level discussions on topics such as regional security, economic cooperation, and sustainable development.
The trip provides an opportunity for Malawi to strengthen its ties with Tanzania and other African nations.
Dr. Chilima is expected to return to Malawi on Saturday, April 27th, 2024, via Lilongwe.
