Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) is making strides in promoting sports development in the country, with a focus on grassroots development, mass participation and rewarding sports excellence.
The MNCS has conducted coaching and umpiring courses for community members and teachers across the country, empowering local coaches with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop athletes and promote sports development at the grassroots level.
The MNCS Spokesperson, Edgar Mtulungwa said, "The MNCS programmes have been instrumental in enhancing the skills and knowledge of local coaches, which has had a positive impact on the performance of athletes in various sports disciplines."
Despite financial constraints, the MNCS has witnessed numerous success stories since its inception in 2021.
Malawi Youth Games have produced athletes who have represented the country at the international level and won medals.
A Coach from Lilongwe, Nelson Banda attested to the impact of the MNCS programmes, saying, "I think the MNCS programmes have been instrumental in promoting inclusivity and empowerment through sports, particularly for underrepresented groups like women and athletes with disabilities."
The MNCS plans to expand its programs to reach more rural areas, disadvantaged communities, and underrepresented groups, such as women and athletes with disabilities.
The Organization is committed to promoting inclusivity and empowerment through sports, supporting initiatives like the Special Olympics Malawi.
With its comprehensive approach to sports development, the MNCS is poised to make a significant impact on the lives of athletes in the country, promoting a culture of inclusivity, excellence, and empowerment through sports.
