The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) has officially lifted the temporally suspension of all sporting activities in the country.
This decision comes after a period of national mourning following the tragic passing of Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight officials who died in a plane crash on June 10, 2024.
In a media release issued on 18 June 2024, Dr. Henry M.S. Kamata, the Chief Executive Officer of MNCS, expressed the Council's profound gratitude to all sporting associations and affiliates for their respectful observance of the suspension.
The Council praised the solidarity and support demonstrated during this difficult time, which they noted had been invaluable to the nation.
"As we resume our sporting endeavours, let us continue to honour the memory and legacy of those we have lost by embodying the spirit of peace, unity, and excellence in our sporting activities," stated Dr. Kamata.
The suspension was put in place to honour the late Vice President and the other officials, whose deaths left the nation in a state of mourning.
