It was a tough match today November 24, 2023 when the referee officiating a match between third year versus first year students in the vice- principals’ trophy for what others saw as unprofessional act by the referee.
It was during the first half of the competition when the first years tried to put the ball into the net for the second time, to make it 3-2.
The third years claimed that there was a foul in the action though the official made his decision that it was a goal.
One of the first year players controlled the ball with a hand which the ref did not notice and hence
allowing the goal.
The first years celebrated the goal which led to a misunderstanding between the two giants caused a delay of about 30 minutes and at last a decision was made to replace the referee.
The dismissed referee, Jonathan Thindwa said that he was okay with his decision and the associate finales were just scared that they might lose the game.
“It was a goal and the associates were just scared that they could be beaten by Year0s.” thindwa said.
“Though I wanted the year0s to win because it will be good for our team, I wanted them to win a proper way
…. not that I was on their side and my goal decision does not involve these.” ThindwA added.
After being dismissed he said that he has no bad feelings to anyone and gave chance to the other referee to officiate the match in his way.
The associate finale’s coach, John Barry L. said that the referee was biased and he was listening to the supporters instead of making his own decision.
“Supporters are the one who are making the officials decisions starting from the first goal.” Barry said.
Barry Added by saying that the officials’ decision lowered the third years’ confidence and his players lacked energy when the match resumed.
Isaac Sawasawa, the first year’s coach commented that there was power over law during the match and he was happy with referees’ decision.
“These people feel like they are above the law hence their third goal was offside and we did not react because we respected the ref’s decision” Sawasawa said.
Third year’s midfielder, Chrispin KP Kapindira said that the referee was against their team and the decision removed their hardworking spirit in the second half.
Kapindira said, “we were not happy with the decision because we did not want to win with a one goal difference.”
“the ref was against us because we beat his team last week.” He added.
He said today’s game was tough and their supporters were on mute which led them to lose confidence though they managed to win.
The third years had victory of 3-2 over the first years which means that they are on top of the table.
