After a year of speculation and rumors, Patrick Mabedi has finally spoken out about the situation between him and Gabadinho Mhango. In an interview Mabedi clarified that there is no disagreement between them and that he fully supports Mhango’s return to the national team.
Mabedi referred to Mhango as his son and revealed that he was the one who facilitated Mhango’s move to the team. Despite Mhango missing his flight at one point, Mabedi believes that everyone deserves a second chance, including Mhango. He expressed his confidence in Mhango’s abilities and stated that he should be given the opportunity to rejoin the team.
In Mhango’s absence, Malawi managed to secure a victory against Liberia and suffered a defeat to Tunisia in the World Cup Qualifiers. Looking ahead, Mabedi has named a 27-member squad for the upcoming four-Nation tournament that Malawi will host during the FIFA International Break.
The squad include a mix of experienced players and promising talents, with Mabedi emphasizing the need for competition within the team. He believes that Mhango’s experience will be valuable and that he will easily integrate with the other players.
FAM Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed that the team will camp in Blantyre for two weeks before moving to Lilongwe for the tournament. He also mentioned that foreign-based players will be included in the squad after the 15th of March.
