The Unseen Chronicles of Malawi’s University Adventures

By Adrian Simango

University life offers a unique experience for students as they navigate through challenges and opportunities that university has to offer.

Meet Ruth Masamba, a spirited business management student at the University of Livingstonia. Ruth knows that university life isn’t just about textbooks and lectures. It’s a wild ride, like balancing on a unicycle during a cyclone.

She’s learned that focus and resilience are her secret weapons. They shield her from the whirlwind of influences that threaten to sweep her away.

Ruth’s advice to fresh-faced newcomers? “Choose your companions wisely,” she whispers. “Some smiles hide secrets, and not everyone has your best interests at heart.”

Now, let’s wander over to Tamanda Chalamamba, who studies at the Malawi University of Business Applied Sciences. Tamanda, believes that university is like a treasure chest.

Each day, it offers shiny opportunities and rusty challenges. He’s seen friends stumble, dazzled by distractions, the siren call of late-night parties.

But Tamanda, with a twinkle in his eye, says, “Mindfulness is our secret weapon. It helps us dodge the pitfalls and choose paths that lead to gold.”

And there’s Yankho Chimera, the social work student from the Catholic University. Yankho thrives on stories, the ones whispered in the library’s dusty corners. He keeps on telling fresh students in the university to be real to themselves.

Authenticity, he believes, is the secret sauce. It flavors friendships, seasons late-night debates, and turns ordinary moments into extraordinary memories.

Lastly, there is Chrispine Aumex Mtaja’s world. Chrispine, the food technology scientist at the Natural Resources College. His university journey is a rollercoaster sometimes thrilling, sometimes stomach-churning. Amidst equations and food experiments, he’s discovered that transformation is the heartbeat of this place.

Chrispine leans in, his eyes serious. “Stay resolute,” he advises the newcomers. “The distractions? Oh, they’re like mischievous monkeys stealing your bananas. But keep your eyes on the prize. Yes! that degree—and you will swing through this jungle just fine.”

University life isn’t just about textbooks. It’s about finding your tribe, chasing rainbows, and dancing barefoot in the rain. As the Principal Rev J.P.V Mwale keeps on saying, university is not just about studies; it's also about having fun and enjoying yourselves.
