In celebration of their athletic courage, Third-Year Students at UNILIA-Kaning'ina Campus who emerged victorious in various sports categories in the Principals trophy are to host a party after recieving their prize money at the awarding ceremony hosted by the university on Friday.
The ceremony which was graced by the presence of niversity's Principal, Reverend JPV Mwale, the Registrar, Reverend WS Mwale and the Dean of Students Patrick Mulekano saw the Third Year students scooping 3 monetory prizes in football, netball and volleyball sporting categories respectively.
However amidst the academic hustle and bustle of ongoing exams, the third-year students have decided to host a grand celebration over the weekend to mark their achievements.
Speaking to one of the third year students, Prisca Mtsukwa, said she was excited about the party and that the university fulfilled it's promise by awarding the students.
"At first, I thought they weren't going to give us our money, but now that they have, am so happy and excited," she said.
Commenting on the party happening in the midst of exams Mtsukwa said she was a bit worried.
“However, its a time to give the brain a break and refresh considering that the party is happening during the weekend,” she added.
Responding to similar questions, Michael Majawa popularly known as Jawido who happens to have won an individual award as best player of the tournament in volleyball and is in the party's organising committee said he's excited about the events and the awarding ceremony itself.
"Am so excited for being voted as player of the tournament and am also happy for my whole class for winning all the major categories,
On hosting the party in the midst of exams, we have done it considering that some will finish exams as early as Tuesday next week, so for everyone to participate it has to be this Saturday" said Majawa.
This year's Principals trophy was first of it's kind at UNILIA Kaning'ina campus and the administration has expressed satisfaction and has promised students that it will organise an event just like this one in the near future.
