By Patience Kapinda

President Lazarus Chakwera announced a significant milestone in Malawi's quest for sustainable energy and economic growth.

A memorandum of understanding was signed with Sun Africa Power Development Limited, facilitated by Rethinking Africa Foundation, to construct a 50 megawatt solar farm in Choma, Mzuzu.

The €70 million investment will span 80 hectares, creating over 100 jobs during construction and 80 permanent positions for the next 25 years.

This project aligns with Malawi's goal to add 1000 megawatts to the national grid by 2025.

President Chakwera emphasized the significance of this clean energy investment, stating, "A Green future we want begins with these kind of investments."

The solar farm will contribute to increased productivity and reduced reliance on fossil fuels.

This partnership with the German-based Rethinking Africa Foundation demonstrates Malawi's commitment to sustainable development and attracting foreign investment.

The project is expected to bolster the country's energy sector, driving economic growth and prosperity.
