Malawi's inflation rate has risen to 33.3% in June 2024, up from 32.7% in May 2024, according to data released by the Malawi National Statistical Office. The increase is attributed to both food and non-food items, with food inflation reaching 41.5% and non-food inflation at 22.2%.
The year-on-year inflation trends continue to impact the cost of living across the country. On a month-to-month basis, the national inflation rate stands at 2.4%, indicating a 2.4% increase in overall prices compared to the previous month. Food prices rose by 3.1%, while non-food items saw a 1.4% increase.
After a decline in inflation from January 2024, the rate began to rise in April and May, reaching 32.3% and 32.7%, respectively. The latest figures suggest a continued upward trend in inflation.
