The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) held its third Open Day event at the Grand Palace Hotel, aiming to raise awareness on digital issues and provide a platform for operators and consumers to engage with the regulator.
The event, hosted by Feston Malekezo, featured an opening prayer by Reverend Alexander Mhango and presentations by Thokozani Chimbe, Director of Legal Services at MACRA, and Father Francis Damaseke, MACRA Board Director.
Chimbe emphasized MACRA's role in creating an enabling environment in the digital world, citing digital transformation, investment, closing the digital divide, and supporting innovation as key objectives.
Damaseke, the Guest of Honour, highlighted the importance of the Open Day event as an opportunity for feedback and engagement. He invited attendees to interact with MACRA staff, learn about regulatory mandates, and explore future possibilities.
MACRA Director General Daudi Suleiman was unable to attend due to another engagement, but was represented by Chimbe. Stakeholders, including consumers, journalists, and journalism students, participated in the event, asking questions and providing comments.
MACRA, in collaboration with the Universal Service Fund, showcased projects and functions at display tables. The regulator is committed to empowering communities, driving innovation, and safeguarding the rights and interests of all Malawians in the digital economy.
