Do we have any say when it comes to our country’s economy?

By Lucius Kalinga

As a country we believe that the government is our backbone to every big decisions being made as a whole. I think now it is clear that the government has betrayed us and continues to throw us under the bus when it comes to the economy.

Malawians have been silent for a long time, those small grouped demonstrations are not enough. Why just sit around and complain that things are expensive to the extent that the average Malawian cannot afford three meals per day as they promised?

Why settle for less when the government should put the well-being of us, the people as a priority?

Their backing point is that, this will benefit in some way as said by Minister of finance and economic affairs Hon. Simplex Chithyola Banda in a Press Briefing at Bingu International convention center (BICC) on 13 November 2023 in Lilongwe.

The Honourable Minister said that, Malawian kwacha was not trading on its real market value and it was negatively affecting the economy of the country.

The government is for the people, at least that is what democracy demands. But is it though? Continuously, the government has shown how selfish it is; no consideration to the well-being of the people or putting their lives first.
