Through its official Facebook page on January 18, 2024, the department stated, "It is false that the rains being experienced are due to a cyclone on its way. Currently, there is no cyclone appearing on our radar detector. The truth is that the rains are due to a high-density Congo airmass accompanied by the ITCZ, which causes rain."
The meteorological service has assured Malawians that there is no cyclone imminent, nor is one causing the rains. They emphasize that they will promptly alert Malawians to any changes.
However, some followers have inquired about the previously predicted three-week dry spell, but the department has yet to respond.
Since December 2023, the country has been grappling with rainy conditions, leading to property destruction and fatalities due to lightning.
The department advises the general public to take precautionary measures during the rainy season to ensure their safety.
