Up-and-coming musician Third Chioko, whose real name is Oscar Chioko of Ziedi Music duo, has released his first-ever music project, an Extended Playlist (EP).
The EP, titled ‘Situations,’ comprises three songs and is a collaborative effort with his friend Young Zuze, real name Joab Zuze, who contributed one individual track to the project and joined him on another.
Chioko, currently a Bachelor of Human Resources and Industrial Relations student at the University of Livingstonia, Kaning'ina Campus, shared in an interview a glimpse of what the EP addresses.
"The EP explores daily life situations, addressing issues related to depression and offering advice to people not to give up despite their struggles," he said.
The project which is now available on audiomack, was inspired by a moment of heartbreak that he experienced. The main concept of the EP revolves around addressing issues related to heartbreaks and coping with the potential depression that may accompany such experiences.
Chioko also hinted about releasing a joint album with his friend by the end of this year. However, he highlighted the challenges faced by most upcoming artists, citing financial support as a significant hurdle.
"So far, the challenges we are facing as upcoming artists are financial. Breaking into the industry is tough as one needs money to create more music and promote it through different music sites and streaming platforms," he said.
Sharing his views on why upcoming artists may struggle to penetrate the industry, Mzuzu-based and renowned music producer J-One Beats mentioned that, besides financial constraints, other factors like song composition play a crucial role.
He pointed out that some artists may have the monetary resources but lack strong lyrics that resonate with listeners.
"Some artists have all the financial support but lack the pen-game; they have the money but lack strong lyrics that will make sense to the listeners. This is why artists should consider consulting other songwriters to write their songs," he said.
J-One Beats also emphasized the need for upcoming musicians to develop strategies when releasing their songs. Making them available on music downloading sites and streaming platforms is essential since merely sharing music via WhatsApp might not help them reach a broader audience.
He stressed that sticking to a producer is crucial for upcoming musicians to develop chemistry and produce perfect songs. He finally shared that upcoming artists should embrace being unique in their style and not copy anyone.
