The University of Livingstonia Kaning’ina Campus witnessed a colorful and lively event on Thursday, as the candidates for various positions in the student union presented their manifestos to the electorate.
The event was attended by hundreds of students, who cheered and applauded their preferred candidates.
The positions up for grabs among others include sports director, entertainment director, finance director, health and sanitation director, president and vice president of the student union, speaker and secretary.
The candidates are:
Sports director: Michael Majawa, Davie Mkandawire, Hope Ashanal
Entertainment director: Alfred Pemba, Edward Kamvabingu and Peace Mbeke
Finance director: Gift Misi and Benjamin Mwausegha
President: , Wilton kumwenda and Timothy Huwa
Vice president: Prisca Mtsukwa
Speaker: Upendo Mphonde
Secretary: Tiwonge Gwamba
The candidates outlined their visions and plans for improving the welfare and activities of the students, as well as addressing the challenges and opportunities facing the campus.
Some of the issues raised by the candidates include enhancing sports facilities and equipment, organizing more social and cultural events, ensuring transparency and accountability in financial matters, promoting hygiene and health awareness, fostering unity and cooperation among students, and representing the students’ interests and concerns to the university administration and other stakeholders.
The event was moderated by the current student union leaders, who also urged the students to exercise their democratic right and responsibility by voting for the candidates of their choice.
The voting will commence on Friday, December 1, 2023, and the results will be announced shortly after. The elected leaders will then assume office and serve for a term of one academic year.
