At least 280 people killed in protests led by students against the Bangladesh government.
student leaders in Bangladesh have launched campaigns and demonstrations, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The protests, which began in July with calls to abolish quotas in civil service jobs, have now evolved into a broader anti-government movement.
Tragically, the total death toll since the protests began in July has now surpassed 280, thirteen police officers were killed while thousands of protesters attacked a police stations.
This has resulted into both police and supporters of the governing party to use live ammunitions, Tear gas and rubber bullets against demonstrators.
"Around 10,000 people have been reportedly detained in a major crackdown by security forces in the past two weeks. Those arrested included opposition supporters and students" leads the BBC report.
Students against discrimination and a key group behind the demonstrations, have called on citizens to engage in acts of civil disobedience, including refusing to pay taxes and utility bills.
They have also urged a shutdown of all factories and public transport, aiming to cripple the country’s infrastructure and force the government to respond to their demands.
